BIMS e.V. is a non-profit organisation working in the field of education and technologies within work and learning.
BIMS e.V. was founded in 2007 to continue the activities of the “Bildungsinstitut Martin Schön (BIMS)”. Since 1990, the educational institute has developed and organised language courses for migrants on behalf of the Federal Employment Office. Within several years, about 3.000 migrants learned German in our courses lasting about six months (courses were located in the south east of Bavaria; in Freilassing, Bad Reichenhall and Berchtesgaden). After the official introduction of the German “Integration Courses“ (in German “Integrationskurse“) done by the Federal Office for Migration and Refugees in 2005 the number of participants declined rapidly and therefore courses became uneconomical. Since then additional experiments has been carried out with course concepts with more time flexibility and open (blended) learning parts to fit the requirements of employed migrants.
Our motto is “making education reachable” and therefore we are deeply involved in the movements of new learning forms, new pedagogical concepts, open access as well as open educational resources. The well-respected scientific open access journal bildungsforschung.org (ISSN 1860 8213), the prizewinning open textbook project “L3T.eu” (Lehrbuch für Lernen und Lehren mit Technologien) and a series of scientific contribution on open educational resources (o3r.eu) are examples for these activities. Co-operation and Co-financing of our projects are up to the present mainly national, e.g. our current project “IZED2” where children creates learning videos with iPads (http://ized2.wordpress.com) is co-financed with subsidies by the Federal Ministry of Family, Seniors, Women and Youth. BIMS e.V. is also official regional consultant and issuing office of the “Bildungsprämie” (voucher for further education) financed by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research.
We develop, organise and lead seminars and workshops about innovative forms of technologies' usage within work and learning since several years now. Together with the steering committee and members of our non-profit association (amongst others: Prof. Dr. Ernst Begemann, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Martin Ebner, Dr. Sandra Schön) we are deeply involved in networks and activities within the fields of innovative perspectives on education and learning on a solid scientific level. For example, we co-organised an expert meeting on the future of textbooks in June 2012 with more than 40 participants from German speaking countries (l3t.eu/zukunft).
Please do not hesitate to contact us for additional information or your ideas of co-operation!
